Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the NAM (Non Allign Movement) meeting first time after the 2014 when PM Modi first become the Prime Minister. This conference is going to be held digitally through video conferencing on COVID-19. This is significant because after a long time the highest representative of India is going to attend this meeting. In 2016 and 2018 India attended this NAM summit on vice- presidential level.
For the period of 2019-2022 Azerbaijan is the president of these grouping and the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev will be responsible for the meet during these period of time. The title of the summit is “We stand together against COVID-19”.
Non- Aligned Movement is the second largest grouping in the world after United Nations. It has emerged in 1950 and currently have more than 120 nations. During 1950 got independence from colonialism. At that time some nation has decided not to join any big nation like US, Soviet Union for showing superiority on the other nation instead these nations made a group called NAM (Non- Aligned Movement). The co-founders of this group was India’s Jawaharlal Nehru, Indonesia’s Sukarno, Egypt’s Gemal Abdel Nasser, Yugoslavia’s Josep Broz Tito, and Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah. They did not get momentum or any support till 1955 when Asian-African Conference held in Bandung. But now this group is loosing its relevance because for some nation it is just a good place to put blame on big nation for their problems.
Now the time has come when grouping is to be done for the sake of economy, development, Health services not on the basis of ideology. Due to Corona pandemic many countries are lock down, billions of people are under home quarantine. In this crisis not only NAM groups but whole world should come along together and fight with corona. Definitely WE CAN AND WE WILL .
